Estos son los nuestros

Hemos visto prácticamente todos el bochornoso vídeo de Vito Quiles y su encuentro con Begoña Gómez. Estoy seguro de que no tantos han visto que el martes 28 el INE publicó que la tasa de paro escaló al 10,83% en el primer trimestre, una subida de 0,9 puntos respecto al trimestre anterior. Bloomberg lo recogió en su portada económica de ese día, por cierto. No existen las casualidades. 

El lunes, Joaquín Manso, director de El Mundo, acudía a un encuentro en CUNEF Universidad que moderaba Santiago Carbó, economista que participó entre otras cosas en La Linterna de Colmenarejo en su momento. Mi curiosidad se acerca mucho a la que tienen ellos, salvando las distancias, y no me equivocaba. Un brillante encuentro en el que confirmamos algo: informar, difundir, opinar e influenciar lo puede hacer cualquiera hoy; verificar, solo unos pocos tienen esa responsabilidad.

No existen las casualidades. Existe un algoritmo, entrenado a diario por cada uno de nosotros, para mostrarnos solo lo que ya queremos ver. Lo bueno y lo malo, a la carta. De ahí viene esta sociedad partida entre quienes creen tener razón y quienes saben que no la tienen. Y en medio del ruido, el medio tradicional vuelve a lo único que ya nadie se molesta en hacer: informar y verificar. Esa es la responsabilidad que le queda. No es poca. 

¿Cuál es el efecto en la sociedad? Le pregunté a Manso sobre su último artículo sobre la corrupción.(Ver aquí) ¿Hace mella en el desgaste de los gobiernos? Rajoy perdió un tercio de los votos en su día, pero hoy Sánchez no se verá casi perjudicado. La información ya no llega a una sociedad reunida alrededor de unos mismos hechos, sino a las distintas comunidades que interpretan cada escándalo desde una identidad. 

Me lo traigo a terreno más conocido por todos. Semifinales de Champions League, con un brillante Atlético de Madrid en ellas y donde algunos medios con altos números y visitas han decidido que es la semana en la que Julián Álvarez se va al Barça. Una operación ilógica, inviable e imposible de llevar a cabo por una entidad blaugrana cada vez más arruinada. Aunque en Las Musas lo tenemos ya muy visto, hay que empezar a aplicarlo para cuestiones más allá del fútbol, no consuman. Algunos lo harán, nosotros no.

Esta semana, dos millones de personas han visto a un chaval persiguiendo a una señora por una cafetería. La noticia de Bloomberg la verá quien la busque. En esa diferencia, créanme, está casi todo.

On Monday, Joaquín Manso, director of El Mundo, attended a meeting at CUNEF Universidad moderated by Santiago Carbó, an economist who participated among other things in La Linterna by Colmenarejo at the time. My curiosity comes very close to theirs, all things considered, and I was not mistaken. A brilliant encounter in which we confirmed something: reporting, disseminating, opining and influencing can be done by anyone today; verifying, only a few have that responsibility.

There are no coincidences. There is an algorithm, trained daily by each of us, to show us only what we already want to see. The good and the bad, à la carte. This is where this society divided between those who believe they are right and those who know they are not comes from. And in the midst of the noise, traditional media returns to the only thing that no one bothers to do anymore: reporting and verifying. That is the responsibility it has left. It is not a small one. 

What is the effect on society? I asked Manso about his latest article on corruption.(See here) Does it make a dent in the wear and tear on governments? Rajoy lost a third of the votes back then, but today Sánchez will hardly be harmed. Information no longer reaches a society gathered around the same facts, but to the different communities that interpret each scandal from an identity perspective. 

I bring it to terrain more familiar to all of us. Champions League semifinals, with a brilliant Atlético de Madrid in them and where some media outlets with high numbers and visits have decided that this is the week in which Julián Álvarez goes to Barça. An illogical, unviable and impossible operation to carry out by a Blaugrana entity that is increasingly ruined. Although at Las Musas we have already seen it very clearly, we need to start applying it to issues beyond football; do not consume. Some will, we will not.

This week, two million people have seen a young man chasing a woman through a coffee shop. The Bloomberg news story will be seen by whoever looks for it. In that difference, believe me, almost everything lies.
